Total Knee Replacement
If you are suffering from knee pain in Bingley, Keighley, Skipton and the surrounding areas, we can help you. Pain from an arthritic knee can be very disabling and often affects every aspect of your daily life. If your pain is not helped by taking pain killers or simple modifications to your daily activities a knee replacement can remove your pain and restore your mobility. This will allow you to regain function and enhance your quality of life.
The pain of arthritis is caused by the rough bone surfaces grinding together producing inflammation and swelling. A knee replacement removes the worn-out moving surfaces of your knee. The ends of the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia) are replaced with metal implants that glide against a hard-wearing plastic insert allowing pain free motion.
Uni-condylar/ Partial knee replacement
In a large proportion of patients knee arthritis is localised to just one part of the knee. In these patients it is possible to treat their arthritis by just replacing the worn part of the knee, leaving the rest of the knee untouched. This may involve replacing the inner or outer aspects of the joint, or the patello-femoral joint.
Partial knee replacement has some potential advantages over total knee replacement in the appropriate patient. It is a smaller operation meaning that post- operative pain is usually less and recovery is typically quicker. As the unaffected ligaments and joint surfaces are left in tact the knee moves and feels more like a natural knee. This means that post- operative range of movement, function and patient satisfaction are often higher when compared to total knee replacement patients.
Partial knee replacement has traditionally been thought of as a higher functioning knee replacement for younger patients. Now the lower risk profile has also made it an attractive option for older patients.
Video of knee replacement surgical procedure – a patient’s guide
Some patients would like to know how a knee replacement is performed. The following video has been adapted from a video I produced for our regional trainees (available in media). Our knee treatments in Bingley are available to the public in surrounding areas such as Bradford, Keighley, Skipton and llkley. The video contains video footage from a real knee replacement I performed and therefore contains images some people find distressing. It is intended as an informative video for interest only.

What can I say! I am out of pain since my operation day. Thank you is such a small word to say but no other word can I display. My life has changed and I owe it all to you, so a very big THANK YOU for what you do.
From entering the hospital until I left everything, the nurses, anaesthetist and the surgeon were just perfect and afterwards the physiotherapists.
I was so happy to be treated by these people. They were so friendly and professional at the same time.
I have had more discomfort from having a tooth filling.
