Training
I studied Medicine at St Andrews University and the University of Manchester and completed my specialist orthopaedic training in Yorkshire. I then went on to complete two renowned Hip and Knee Replacement Fellowships one national (Leeds) and one international (Brisbane, Australia) where I gained additional experience in treating all aspects of joint replacement surgery including computer aided surgery and complex revision surgery.
Research
Following the award of multiple Research Fellowships I completed an extensive period of research into osteoarthritis, a debilitating and painful condition that is the most common reason for having to undergo hip and knee replacement surgery. This work helped improve our understanding of the causes of osteoarthritis and has been published in internationally renowned journals and has been presented at international meetings. This research into osteoarthritis has also resulted in the award of a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Manchester.
Teaching
I continue my interest in teaching both medical students and junior doctors as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for a number of junior doctors in training and teach on local and national courses.
I maintain a busy NHS practice including a full trauma commitment with an interest in periprosthetic fracture management.
I am the Elective Orthopaedic Speciality lead at the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with an interest in improving safety, efficiency and effectiveness in theatres.
In my spare time I enjoy clay pigeon shooting and classic car motoring.
